Welcome to Obedience Please Dog Training
A Dog Training Institution
Starting back in 1956 when Home Training didn’t even exist, Howard Finkelstein placed an ad in the New York Times pet section with the heading, “Dog Training In Your Home With You”. Howard’s Home Training program proved to be very popular and effective, so other trainers followed and the In-Home Dog Training Industry was born! We pioneered early training of dogs and we can start this training as early as 8 weeks of age, and as late as 10 years of age. Obedience Please Dog Training is still the primary home-training school in the country. We’re also one of the most experienced dog training facilities in the world; we’ve been in operation for over 60 years! We have the distinction of being the only company to train for Broadway shows, movies, television, AKC shows, obedience, security, agility, advanced training, and special needs training. We started an industry that has been widely copied. We also offer Dog Day Care and Dog Boarding at our training facility!
The process of teaching your dog to sit, come, stay or down, along with other Advanced Obedience Training helps both you and your dog communicate better and understand one another better. The process of doing this together with your dog builds a lasting bond based on mutual trust, respect and love instead of frustration, fear and intimidation. At Obedience Please we believe in utilizing positive reinforcement, structure, and good clear communication between you and your dog to achieve the finest results. Our reward system is LOVE, not treats.
Professional dog training makes a crucial difference in the relationship between you and your dog. Without professional training that relationship can be frustrating for your family and your dog, but with an investment in good training a wonderful transformation occurs. I have been working with dogs and their owners for over 60 years and there is nothing more satisfying for me than to see a happy dog and a happy owner!
Your dog is unique for many reasons: breed, age, appearance, genetics, environment, past experiences and general personality. For this reason, we believe in Customizing Dog Training Programs that fit your dog and your lifestyle. Reward and performance based dog training is the most effective and simplest approach to teaching your dog and ensuring eagerness to participate in training. Making Dog Training fun is key to this success.
“I’ve been using Obedience Please for over 15 years. The hikes, daycare, boarding, training and baths. They cared for my 15 year old Labrador 2 days a week for almost 10 years. They loved him as much as I did. He considered them “family!” Now they care for my 4 year old dog. They are amazing at training and will train you to train the RIGHT way without punishment. They keep the owner fully informed, give great exercise experiences, check on vaccines, communicate well, and socialize your pet completely. I never have to worry about my dog with other dogs – he is the peacemaker! They did this and I trust them with my most important friend, you should too !”
“One of the best doggy daycare/training places ever. They have served most of my dogs since 1997. I have had a Maltese, a Collie and a Labrador Retriever. Solid staff and great training and Howard, just understand dogs and what works. I just got a new puppy and they are helping me with him. They understand different breeds and their natures…so they understand how to work with my dog, and he is already doing so much better and listening when I give commands. Thank you Howard and the rest of your staff – I would not board my dog anywhere else !”
“Howard Finklestein came to our house to train our dog (and my wife and I). He is extremely knowledgeable and experienced, and his training is efficient, and humane. We have a rescue dog, who is probably about 7 years old, but he responded to the training, and Howard, very well. Of course, dog training is maybe mostly about training the owners, and my wife and I feel like we now know what we’re doing, and can use what we learned the rest of our lives. As a side benefit, we spent a lot of time talking to Howard, and he is a delightful, hilarious, and charming man. We feel like we gained a friend, as well as a trained dog.”
