There’s quite a lot of information you need to know when you get a puppy. From the choices of food, when to get vaccinated, and how to house train, you can get overwhelmed by it all quite easily. At Obedience Please, we spend a lot of time with our four-legged friends each day, and we’re pleased to offer a specialized training and pup kennel program to give your new family member a great start in life.
Potty training is likely the most challenging aspect of house training your new puppy. All dogs will use the floors of your home as their own personal bathroom until they’re taught otherwise. It’s very important to be patient and persistent during this stage, and there are plenty of helpful tools and tricks you can use.
Routine is key. Try to stick to a regular routine as much as possible, even on your days off. A feeding schedule is critical because if your dog eats at the same time every day, they will usually need to go to the bathroom at the same time as well. Puppies can’t hold their bladders for very long and will need to go pee many times throughout the day. You should take them outside at least once per hour at first until they stop needing to go that often. If you live in an apartment or can’t take them out as much as they need, you can alternatively use training pads or a patch of grass on the balcony. Always reward your puppy when it uses the training pad or goes outside.
For people who work every day and can’t devote a lot of time to training or scheduled meals, we have some amazing pup kennel and training programs. Our daycare is available 7 days a week and we have an excellent 6-week comprehensive training program that includes Monday to Friday daycare for only $2,250.
